If your colleagues/staff reminds you of bobblehead dolls then they are probably teaching students to act like bobblehead dolls. These dolls (people) simply sway their head up and down in a mindless fashion when stimulated by an outside source without ever thinking about their actions or alternatives. Acting as a “cog” in the machine doesn’t foster learning; it prevents it. Teachers are supposed to be modeling critical thinking and advanced cognitive development for students.
If teachers do not think critically then neither will students.

A big problem with the bobble-heads is that their continual agreement with the party lines is viewed as part of a positive attitude, while any dissent is seen as negativity. It becomes very difficult to challenge scripted programs and relentless testing schedules no matter how much documentation, research, common sense, and or sound pedagogy is applied to your rationale.
My bobble-head administrator is still convinced that I should be preaching the gospel according to Open Court even though my students have surpassed the limited (and limiting) script.
